Currently, Marilia is a researcher at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and works with Dr. Fernando Barbosa. (2020 - Current).

She holds a degree in Generalist Pharmacy (2008-2012) from the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG). 

Master's Degree in Toxicology from the University of São Paulo (FCFRP/USP-RP - 2015)

Ph.D. in Toxicology from the University of São Paulo (2019).

Souza was part of her Ph.D. at the "New York State Department of Health-Wadsworth Center" (Albany-NY, USA) under the supervision of Kurunthachalam Kannan (2017).

She was a Visiting Researcher at the "Laboratory of Toxicology and Environmental Health" at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Spain (2021 - 2022), working with Dr. Jose Domingo (2021 - Current).
